Pubs are the best place to hear things and then make stupid pictures of those things you heard.

DRUNK KILLIN'
I was walking home the other night not fully sober and I saw this truck that had a cool monster mask on it; I just took a photo because I thought it was pretty cool thing to see at 2:37am when I woke up and looked at the pictures; they're awful;blurry and badly taken. Began to kick myself because then I wanted to add a bad-ass monster killing truck in my book but didn't have more photos for reference. I had to google basic pick ups to give myself an idea since I don't really draw cars. Wish I took more photos.
PEOPLE WATCHING
Having the benefit of this being somewhat of a journal and allowing rough drafts in, I think to help with pages and keep things interesting I will be choosing some of these more refined sketches; scanning them and including them in my book..
TACTICAL
For this project to work and hit deadline; it's apparent it's not going to be a publication of the most finely crafted illustrations I can make; it needs to be a informal journal about my view on my sounding; mainly leeds. Photographs will play a heavy part in it; as well as observation and a little bit of story telling. This being the case it allows me the freedom to fill pages with un-finished drawings;roughs;scamps or even just very quick doodles I do in response to something in front of me.
You can bet this guys going in.

NEW DUDE
Even though I have the 4 figures; they were only really meant to be proptypes for a little larger model which not i've picked up from pound land. I also feel that if I have one solid figure I can use it throughout the book then it almost because like a persona in the book as opposed to 4 different characters.
As you can see from the picture the new figure is a fair bit bulkier than the first figure size, which will make it much easier to sculpt over and add detail too after.

It's a pity I have to spray over this guy because he as such a ridiculous looking face.
COVERS IN PROGRESS
I like the idea of using a photograph as my front cover. I think if I did an illustration for it the book from first glace could potentially look like a book soley based on print illustrations and not a mix of photos and print that I would like it to be. Adding my own own hand writing over it adds a interesting element that may get people interested.
These are just examples of texts and not at all the final images.
EDIT:
I'm also no 100% on the boldness of the hand writing so i'm working on something new for the time being; this isn't as important as the content so the cover is currently on the back burner
BIN BAGS.
Neighbor(Too other neighbour):Don't leave your bin-bags out. Some dirty rat might get at them.
I'm the rat; it's me.
Weird pots
My book/zine what i'll be making is basically an applied approach to how I view the city I'm in, I like to be creative and mix things up a bit and I think adding little quirky things in there will make it more interesting to flick through and give more of an sign to this alias I'm trying to create. Above are two jars I cleaned out and put in bones and gravel real bones, real sheep bones. Then I bought an air plant that I thought looked well weird to add into it. OBJECT AND ENVIRONMENT. I'd like to photograph them properly and maybe play around with them as a front cover.
Figures cont.
After spraying my little men white I decided to add a few personal features to give me each a little bit more character. They're a bit more like a squad now. I was thinking of putting these guys into places and taking photos of them; almost becoming characters and then also drawing them in narrative situations with the same motifs so they work both as 2D and 3D forms of communication.

EVALUATION
OUIL503 MODULE EVALUATION
Throughout these briefs I've been throw lots of curve-balls and had theoretical mountains to climb when it came to work. The briefs I chose were all distinctly different (mostly) however after doing a few you see that each brief informs the previous and you're always learning things to help with the next brief. These module has also pushed into areas of design I wouldn't of normally thought about going; or even wanted to try out.
This module I really did enjoy and it really let me get my teeth into a lot of briefs, my favourite of which is live briefs I think. I've done a few before but they weren't exactly briefs more designs for friends but in this module I really got an idea of what a brief really is; and what it can be. For me this project has almost solely been digital and all the final work being digital which is something I'd usually avoid but when it comes to all the specifications that briefs normally adhere too; making things digital makes it much easier to fit into those dimensions and change things a lot easier; if things need to be changed. Even though I still don't like using Photoshop and illustrator heavily I feel i'm at a point where they fit well in my practice but don't take over and this module has helped me shape that.
This module has been filled with very quick briefs and briefs that went on for far too long; each having very different outcomes. Honestly, I found the briefs I spent much less time on were the ones I was most proud of. The ones that were long and drawn out I either forgot about or grew very board of; pushed them to the back of my mind then panicked in the end, hence why the most leading up the finished piece was good but they the whole brief let down by the final resolution. My collaborative brief for example was going great; there was loads of ideas, too many in fact and because of that I believe we rested on our laurels and that caused the final outcome to suffer. On the opposite side; my shorted brief (wrappedco) which I only had two ours to do I felt was my strongest collection of work for a live brief; with the time restraint I couldn't over think; over analyze or push it away I just had to work hard and get it done.
The boards I created (the few I did) were not exactly fantastic; hence why there aren't too many. I'm aware they are important part of the trade that I want to be in but I find it difficult to express my work in a board; and really convey what I want too say. It all feels too formal for my practice. not a valid excuse but this is me understanding i'm well aware that this is something I really need to work on. I should of produced a lot for this module and I know that It will have let a large part of my module down.
If i had the chance to come back to this module, there are many things I would do differently. Keeping a visual journal for one, It feels strange about to submit something and all I have is a disk. With projects being so disjointed I just worked on bits of paper here and there, very chaotic, like my usual work but it doesn't seem to fit in with this type of module. I think having one would of helped me learn more from the briefs from a creative point of view and not from simply answering a brief point of view. I would spend more time on the longer briefs and try and resolve them quicker; work little briefs around the larger ones and one the other way around. Putting shorter; more 'interesting' briefs firsts has been my biggest down fall in this module
To summarize I'm not happy with a lot of work I have produced for this module, I feel i answered much of it from a very basic 'ticking' boxes point of view and didn't use as much creativity as I could have done, or searched for more creating when I found to hard to grasp any. On the next go round, I'd like to be much more myself with how I answer briefs and not just getting it done for the sake of getting it done.

SAVE THE CHILDREN FINAL
For the final brief, with restrictions I was almost worried of going too out of the box and forgetting something or having something go wrong at the end so I stuck to just keep it simple and to a print; poster. Appealing to Dads I think with the monster looking people and all parents with the termonalogoy of parents being able to be their child's 'knight/hero' and looking after their 'little monsters'
Done.
SB COLLABORATIVE FINAL
In the end time became a killing factor and although we hit everything the brief asked for, only one of the photos was to the stand I would of really enjoyed. I real reason I feel for this is we simply had too many ideas and by trying to do them all; it effected our final outcome. In future I believe it would have been better to have stuck to the original plan; even though we didn't like it; tweaked it a bit for the brief and just soldiered through it.
Done.
SB COLLABORATIVE
These were the two current options we had for our brief, as well as one with an animation. We had to go scout out location and it was becoming tiresome and time consuming and quite hard to work with weather and getting the right equipment out. On top of that, with our already busy schedules finding time to animate everything seemed like a waste of time; and we were doing more work and stressing out for little gain. Then we decided to have a change of topic, something that had been staring us in the face for awhile. Our house. We're all young subcultures in our own rights and our rooms reflect us the best anything can, while showing subculture but not being cliche in the slightest. So we got our photographer friend to help us out; give us advice and we set off to make it happen.

MASK
Being as though my new proposal in on Leeds around me and mainly how I interprit and here things that go on around me in the city that I live in - Almost an analysis of Leeds from an analysis of my head. Very much like the book WALKING THE DOG I refereed too earlier in my blog. An since I don't go by my actual name but a alias, I thought a mask was suitable
Started using tin-foil; flour; water and tissue to make a mask shape based around my face, or a face is probably a better way to say it, An then it went in the oven.
Then have to add more layers and repeat in oven until it's strong enough.to add your own little bits of detail and for me it was to be more monster than face.
FAILED NARRATIVE WHY?!
- Poor quality
- Need cleaning up more
- Difficult to colour
- Wrong type of stock used
- Too small
- Bad layout
NARRATIVE
I began to brainstorm some quick narrative ideas just based around the character I've created for myself GRIMGUTZ. Just some stupid and violet to be more of a leaning curve. So I sketched up some drawings, played around with a layout on photoshop and had a go at putting it all together.
JOHNNY RYAN - PRISON PIT
Found this awesome comic called PRISON PIT by a dude called JONNY RYAN and it's awesome, Super violent, funny, and just a crazy world to get engulfed by; I know it's going to effect this project and have an impact on me. Possibly through using narrative and comic strips to better explain stories or experiences.

RESPONSIVE - TATTOO FLASH
For a career after university for as long as I can remember I've always wanted to be a tattoo artist, I know a lot of people and have a lot of friends in the industry.
The other day my friend Jimmy asked me to do a painting for I'm and for the shop he works; Shaun also a friend of min who is a tattooist asked me to do a painting for him too.
So I decided to do both paintings for them then go on to do many more paintings based around tattoo flash.
Instead of making lots of posts about this I'm just going to contain it to one post, since I've been doing it since the start of responsive and have forgotten to blog about it.
