ALL THE BEER CANS

BEER CANS
Now the second image I actually really liked, it looks very crisp and refreshing it brands your eye and all of it flows well together however the motif monster I used I've already used on another brief for a skateboard mock up, it's not too much of a problem but I wanted to do something different.
Now the 3rd and final is or original image with the same colour scheme as the second but with a darker background to give to product itself more pop on the page. I actually prefer the second cans monster design but I wanted something more original than something I've already used.
MORE BEER

Here are some more beer designs i've done
THE BARON -DOUBLE PROOF IPA
Double proof meaning it would be a very high percentage drink I put a foreboding and dark can with a a demon riding a motorbike, I stuck with red and black and orange to represent fire and brimstone and really push this as an intimidating drink that wouldn't be for the feint hearted
ZOMBIE - CHOCOLATE STOUT
I went with a dark brown colour since the alcohol inside the can is a stout which means it's a dark ale but since it's a chocolate stout something that would be more sweet and interesting flavour I adding a lighter purple with a crazy coloured zombie head to keep it a more fun loving, easy going drink, well in comparison to THE BARON counterpart
BEER CAN CONTINUED.
Session IPA means it's and easy going ale, low percentage so it can be drank in volume without creeping up on you or surprising you with a nasty hangover, since it's an easy going drink I kept the colours very bright and happy with warm yellows and cool blues, this is actually my favourite design I've done so far. I think I've learnt a lot from the previous ones and it's all come together.
MONSTER MASH - PALE ALE
a basic pale ale, nothing fancy and nothing to crazy. An every mans drink so I kept the can very plain, all white with just stark black monsters in relation to its name 'MONSTER MASH'

BAR CAN AND PEER REVIEW

I stated I wasn't too happy with how the first cans looks so I decided to up the wow factor with these. I think adding the backdrop image on the cans design just makes the whole image pop and it's so much more engaging. The first looks a little cold; stand alone and dull. The second is much more comanding with colour and imagery and I think because of could work and a proposal for a line of beer cans and be used to sell the product, I will continue to do this for the rest of the cans I make.

BEER CAN MOCK-UPS
7 FINGERED FIENDS - DEMON BREATH - SESSION ALE
7 FINGERED FIENDS - END OF DAYS - DARK PORTER
7 FINGERED FIENDS - FORGED BY FIENDS - DEMON IPA
These 3 designs using some older and newer work were to give me an idea of what results I could have by applying my work to alcoholic products or just a product I've not tried before. I actually really like how they look so far, Even though these ones were only quick I believe they look like finished products. I'd like to do it again and draw custom font as that is one I grabbed of dafont.com. I'm also interested In how far I can push the designs on cans and work the frame which I have been given.
I decided to keep using the font Long Shot and I am going to keep doing to for this brief. It's a free to use font so I wouldn't get in trouble for using it. it helps bring all of cans together by keeping the same don't and it's sharp angles and gothic feel work well with my current practice

FLYINGDOG
Flying dog was actually the first brand of bottle i noticed had really interesting designs, I'll be a little biased since they're created by Ralph Steadman, but it opened my eyes to something I'd never thought of before, another market in which my work could now fit into. The designs are very Steadman, chaotically refined and each isn't just thrown together it is tailored to the alcohol inside and the name give to that particular beverage. Both other brands I've looked at BEAVERTOWN and MAGICROCK focus on cans but flying dog is entirely focused on bottles so it's a slightly different design specification that I could also use.
MAGICROCK
MAGICROCK are a brewing company that put their products out in fully illustrated cans and cask kegs. The illustrations and very quirky and fun, most are brightly coloured and really stand out in a fridge of blander beers. It's not particularly a style of illustration that resembles my own but it's good to show the bredth in which you can go with these now. It's all far game really, They are fully digital designs consisting of very crisp and clean designs mostly made up of vectors and each design is tailored to the beverage inside the can it's going on.
BEAVERTOWN
BEAVERTOWN are an american brand that is growing in popularity over in the UK. In my opnion they are known for their branding first and the taste of the products second. The designs are very low-fi and are almost a form of low-brow art, drank by creatives and cool kids it really shows how far advertising; branding and illustration has come and although it looks different to my work, BEAVERTOWN branding very much fits in with the work that my practice produces.
BAR SLIGHT CHANGE
I was at work, stocking up the fridge the other day taking some photos and then I realised in that moment, I didn't want to take this project any further down the path i'm taking it.
After looking to it a bit further and trying to mock things up. I think the idea has fallen a little flat. There's not many quality mock-ups available for bar equipment and I think the work I made seemed to fall a bit flat and I think that's a little down to me not been 100% inspired by it and also the subject matter being very dry and quite restricting however I've decided to still use this brief but turn my attention onto the products in a bar, mainly the alcohol. There's a huge surge in craft beers and ales and a lot of these are branded which fantastic illustrations so help sell their beer to a younger and more engaged audience so I'll now be focusing my efforts more in that regard that any other.

BAR - EQUIPMENT MOCK-UPS
Boston Shaker
Glassware range
BarBlade (speed opener) 2
I feel very cheap doing this though, almost like it's cheating or it's not entirely my work. Don't get me wrong I mock things up all the time and I use free psd. mock-ups I find online to help me but there's still a lot messing around with designs and tweaking things so they fit and there's usually much more of a design so i'm not too sure I'm enjoying this. It feels very advertising/commercial/big brand use. It's not really me.
BAR - NEW LOGO DESIGN
I decided i didn't want to use the previous image. As mentioned before I didn't like how often I was re-using the image. An a lot of bar items as i've seem as stainless steel and sold commercially so I thought I should take a more clinical approach to creating the image while still trying to keep my practice in it.
I've always been interested in signs and symbols, especially occult signs and norse symbolism so I tried to keep that I'm mind when trying to but a much cleaner image together.
This was the first page from my sketchbook with this in mind, I always draw symbols and make signs up but this was in mind to run along with the 'Pick Your Poison' tagline so i tried to keep that in mind. It got a bit difficult since my style of drawing is very loose with heavy mark making with doesn't really fit with the look I'm after, So I decided to head into photoshop and use the line tool to make it all digital.
I used google to look at some more symmetrical and geometric patterns. It's more something i'm well trained in so after some tinkering and scrutinising patterns and how they worked I finally started to get somewhere. The only problem then was text, I nearly always draw my own typefaces since I think it helped things flow much better and doesn't just look stuck on like a lot of images do when you borrow a font from somewhere. This was an exception though, since the starting image was very clean and much closer to graphic design I decided to use a pre-made font called Long Shot
Below was the final image I came up with and then it mocked up on the same coaster design as the previous poster.
BAR
Quickly mocked up this image of a previous design of mine, the design is almost the front runner of my brand at the moment so I'm using it quite a lot, a bit more than I'd like to admit really, it's making me a little lazy. At first I drew the image in the top right as the overall design but It didn't work as a coaster design and it looked a little flat, I think that monsters face makes for a much more interesting drinks coaster.
It felt unbalanced so i decide to add one text to the bottom right, 'Pick Your Poison' I've always like that sound of that, and when people discuss what's your poison. It sounds cool and it think it fits well as a drink slogan than goes hand in hand with my type of work.
BAR RESEARCH
I decided to do some research into the market of bar equipment just too see what's available to buy around and maybe give myself more ideas of what I can be making for this brief.
It's a littel dry but you get the idea. Like I've said most bars buy in generic equipment, and don't get anything personalized as it's more cost effective; easier to replace etc etc and most of it is expensive anyway without having to get it personalized but this is almost a fantasy brief so money isn't an issue so it's more about what I can make up and mock up.

Bar
After talking to Fred it sounded like a good idea to mock-up and design things for bars to use. Such as a lot of the equipment, mainly because I work in a bar and I already know the ins and outs of it. Now bar equipment is stainless less and would cost a lot of money to actually be able to make the products but I though i'd be fun to design and mock up designs for things I use a lot of the time.

This was a very interesting review, it was less about the aesthetic of my work and more about how to put everything in order to get the most out of these next few weeks and really push my briefs forward. So now i've managed to get 5 full briefs set up, all with different time frames and a range of possible ideas. There were some similarities with Patricks review so things like making my work bigger and working in space are definite considerings I need to think about.
