Crit:
But Kane, none of these relate to Shakespeare? Ye that's true, I didn't think we had too and it's too late now. So, I'm sorry but this is how it has to go down now. Do not fail me for this. I mean it man. Don't.

That aside.
Everytime i do collage i forget how much I love doing it. It's such a great way to work and I always forget about it. My biggest crit to myself would to just remember that it's an option. A lot of my cut outs are crude and would work a lot better if i took more care and sensitivity when I was cutting and sticking so that's a big thing I need to work on. My favourite is the bottom two images, because It makes me feel like the collage has made my work better as opposed to just made my work.

Crit.
I chose 'plays of Shakespeare' First responses to me are really lacking seen as I was only drawing from what I already knew about them, which wasn't too much so they're a bit satirical and really lacking the the sense that I know what i'm drawing about. After researching it a bit more, it turns out all his plays have a lot of people dying in weird ways. So that worked really well for me. I tried going from drawing monsters to actually drawing people which I really struggled with and really need to work on. I then moved onto a more abstract painting method to how they made me feel. It didn't work but I want to work on this more.

BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE

This one is my favourite, it's the scene from macbeth where he finds the 3 witches. I don't think many other people like it, but I used what I learnt from the previous task (using tools in different ways) and made this. I like it. If you don't you can suck a lemon, my lemon.

TASK
Working in monochrome
In sketchbook or loose cartridge (A4/A3)
Use (a minimum of) 10 different tools
Make (a minimum of) 3 drawings with each

This is very much a continuation from last week’s task, but with a focus on exploring the drawn line.

COMBINED WITH

By next Tues, 5th Nov
9:30am in the studio
Display a body of work evidencing your experimentation with ten different drawing tools (minimum).
Documentation of your tools on your blog would be a good idea.
Five drawings (minimum) with each tool in response to your chosen visual subject. With a focus on drawn line, tone, made mark and pattern.

Responce:

Crit:
First part in monochrome, I didn't like and getting my hand on ten tools was harder than i thought, does using a pencil from the point then turning it round count? It should do. There's a lot more of these but they kinda suck. In fact I think all of these kinda do but I did learn a fair bit, especially I really like using tools the way they weren't designed. You get some really interesting lines and and things happening on a page that you just can't get if you're doing it traditionally.

Vis. L

I can't remember the last time I blogged for this, so instead of pretending I've done it all when I meant to. I'm just going to uploads them all now.

TASK
You have 4 photographs with you
Make multiple drawings (3 minimum) from each reference image (12 in total)
Working at A4, either in sketchbooks or on loose cartridge if you would prefer

Working in monochrome only with your choice of any wet or dry media.

Crit:
Had a picture of two skin heads, two fighters, an oil rig and a scorpion.
Actually enjoyed this a lot more than i thought, I thought it'd be boring but when I got into it it was actually pretty fun. Learnt that I really need to work on my man made structure drawings, I feel alot stronger when I'm drawing something organic as opposed to something man made, hence why the oil rig ones are lifeless.

Continued:
I enjoyed drawing the scorpion so much I kept drawing and I found because of the amount of times I'd drawn it i could just do it without think, which gave me to scope to add my own little flare to it, which resulted in:

This ugly prick.

Mock flyers

These are my current mock flyers, Now personally I know how bad i am at graphic design and photoshop so i decided it was best for me to make them look really bad on purpose, instead of failing to make them look good. I can't say I like them, I used reference from all the previous posters I had collected but just added stupid slogans on what actually can happen at these places based on the research we've done.

Side note:
-I didn't like how much they felt like something I hadn't created. They seem lifeless to me so I made one more.
Now about this, I prefer it because it feels more like something I've actually made and been a part of but I don't think it works too well with the actual other posters we've seen but i'll have to see what my group thinks about them all next time we meet up.

Prep for monday and the crit,

We had to prepare posters to execute what we're going to do and what we're trying to prove. We had to present these to two other groups and see what happend.

Sheet and sheet prep.

Main points on all posters; Main poster; Why; Strategy; Aims.

 What makes a club knobhead:

-Spilling drinks over people                    -Inappropriate pissing
-Starting fights                                         -Stealing
-Being a sleezeball                                   -Pushing/Shoving
-Throwing up everywhere                       -Face screamers

Strategy:

-Create mock flyers
-Base them off previous found club flyers
-Hand them out to people?
-Put them in Clubs/Pubs/Bars

Aims:
-Raise awareness
-Poke fun
-Ask important questions
-Make people laugh

CRIT:

Crit from a group:
  • Good not singling a certain type of person out
  • Flyer idea is funny
  • ambitious/doable but not over ambitious
  • Not impossible
  • Revise GIF idea
  • Handing out flyers?
Self Crit:
  • All are current GIF ideas are lacking, we need to focus all our efforts on that idea
  • We're all going to go away and make some mock flyers then decide as a group whose to use based on humour, similarity and which work best with the brief
  • GIF idea again, difficult for our group to decided on an idea that will work and be able to pull off

Our group and our plan

This is my group by the way, they're good people.

We all decided we had to really think about this:

Crit:
  • We can't just say club knobheads and choose a type, we need an informed opinion
  • Can't be personal we actually have to find out facts and stats about who these people are and why they're 'club knobheads'
  • Just because we don't like a stereotype doesn't make them these people
  • In the wrong context we could potentially offend a lot of people

So, we all went away and collected all the information we could on these kind of people and that kind of lifestyle.

Aggy came back with statistics and stories:

And I came back with the kind of information you're bombarded with all a young person going to clubs.

Crit:
  • Is it the persons fault or the clubs?
  • Drinking culture makes the potential that anyone could be a club knobhead
  • Students and young people are bombarded with this kind of cheap drinks all the time, constantly. I personally have covered my flat walls in these things, so to get enough to cover 2 full walls is pretty shocking. Are the clubs to blame? The culture itself? Or do people need more self control?
  • I believe so far as group we're working well, we're staying on top of everything and all of us doing separate jobs to make the process run smoother.

Group responces

This what we chose between use all that we all think are 'PANTS':

-David Silvester us pants for blaming recent floods on gay marriage.
-Club knobheads fort starting fights.
-It's pants we you eat all your biscuits.

We then had to leave the decision in the hands of other groups as they chose which idea we would carry on with, we got  'Club Knobheads'

From here we had to to brainstorm and present a poster with our starting ideas.

Our ideas and action plan.

-Observe so called 'knobheads'; during the day too?
-Clothes?
-Attitude
-Mannerisms
-Imitate them?
-Men/Women

Crit.
  • Think it will be interesting to create group work being that we're all so different
  • Leaving our 'fate' in the hands of other class mates was a risk, but I guess that's something we have to get used too with briefs and clients we might not like
  • Drew too many dicks, ALWAYS refer back to brief. I got carried away with having a laugh and being rude when the main point of the brief is not to be offensive
  • Have to keep myself in check seen as offensive is something I tend to use a lot and enjoy using
